New exhibit opening March 2, 2024 at Five Points Museum of Contemporary Art
What has happened in 200 years? Globally? Locally?
Globally, the Industrial Revolution led to massive sustained economic growth starting around 200 years ago in Great Britain, quickly reaching the US and the world, triggering a new era for humanity.
Locally, a small settlement was founded by Martin de Leon that would evolve into the City of Victoria.
In between the local and the global, countless stories were created by settlers, immigrants, ranchers, indigenous peoples, armies and many other sources. And like any history, these stories echo in the South Texas area today.
Five Points Museum will be hosting its second open call exhibition in 2024, in celebration of Victoria’s Bicentennial. The theme is “Timeline: 200 Years” and we welcome submissions from artists within a 100 mile radius of Victoria to submit artwork that speaks to points along the timeline of the last 200 years, since Victoria was founded.
The theme is a nod to the bicentennial, but within our culture today, carries multiple meanings, from combined years of experience to the personal experience of a family and their ancestors. The focus will be 200 years around Victoria but will also work to include the longer history of immigrants and travelers who found their way to Victoria through trial, opportunity, and serendipity.
With the City of Victoria approaching its bicentennial celebration in April of 2024, the Museum will acknowledge and participate in the all-year celebration with this exhibit opening March 2. We are now accepting submissions via our online form.
