Victoria children with The Manhattan Art Program present a new generation of collage in a new exhibit at the Five Points Museum of Contemporary Art beginning May 4. Children are natural storytellers—show them a picture and they will immediately invent an imaginative and colorful narrative about it. This is why collages by Ann Harithas at the Five Points Museum were the perfect prompt and inspiration for children to respond to. During free art programs at public schools and the Pine Street Center, dedicated teaching artists guided young students to make their own collages. Automatically and spontaneously, the children chose pictures to cut out, organize and compose, creating intuitively original and artful pictorial stories. The exuberant collages of Ann Harithas inspired the youngsters’ sense of freedom to innovate and amplify The Creative Era of Ann Harithas. In conjunction with The Creative Era of Ann Harithas, a special exhibition of the children’s collages will open at the Five Points Museum of Contemporary Art on Thursday, May 4 from 5–7 pm. This exhibition supplement will be on display throughout the month of May. Bring the whole family to celebrate these young artists and the vision of Ann Harithas, and enjoy free cookies and punch! |
