Museum Assistant – Part-time, 15-25 hours per week

Be part of a small, dedicated team that keeps Five Points Museum open and running for Victoria. The right candidate will have a natural talent for customer service and a desire to learn about museum practices.
The Museum Assistant provides support for the general daily operation of the museum, as well as logistical and other general assistance in the planning, preparation and installation of exhibitions and special events, and ongoing care and cleaning of equipment.
This position is for part-time employment up to 25 hours per week; schedule is flexible within reason – students and those of all ages 18 years and older are encouraged to apply.
Priority will be given to candidates available for Saturday and Sunday shifts (11am-5pm).
Duties include:
- Assisting with the daily operation of the museum:
- Maintaining museum hours open to the public
- Acting as museum docent for visitors as needed, answering visitor inquiries
- Monitoring the museum building for security, cleanliness, and ensuring exhibits are in good order
- Assisting with other senior staff as needed
Skills and Requirements:
- Excellent customer service skills – this is a public facing role
- Ability to work weekends
- Ability to occasionally lift artwork and display materials weighing up to 50 pounds
- Preferred: Working competency in Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, and/or WordPress
- Preferred: Familiarity with light automobile maintenance to help with Art Cars.
Pay and other details:
- Starting pay is $15 per hour
- 15-25 hours per week

Five Points Museum welcomes submissions from artists and proposals for exhibitions. While we review each one we receive, due to the number of submissions we cannot always respond directly to each proposal. Please keep in mind that our calendar is generally planned far in advance.
