On Saturday, May 3rd, from 5-8PM, Five Points Museum on Contemporary Art will host an exhibition by Houston artist Davey Eldridge featuring a survey of his landscapes examining the elemental structures and rhythm of nature and inspired by fleeting moments in time captured within those landscapes.
Originally from Potsdam, New York, Eldridge studied painting and printmaking at SUNY Potsdam. He eventually moved to Houston and taught art for many years. He has been painting since his youth, and between his teachers and his own affinity for nature, found inspiration in as varied media as post-war abstract art and quilting. His approach is unique, visually mining a blend of traditional watercolor and assemblage while employing hidden or underlying geometries within his subjects. The result is ornately detailed paintings that transcend his media, ranging from representational to abstract nature-based compositions; “Lookout” is the result of Eldridge acting as both a guide and a sentinel for transient places in time and by documenting the extraordinary within them, protecting them.
The opening reception, Saturday, May 3rd, will feature live entertainment and light refreshments from 5-8PM.
